About me
Ever since I was little, I’ve loved sweets… and so did my mother. She always had something sweet in the house, whether it was ice cream, cookies, pies, cakes or cobblers. Whenever she would make something in the kitchen, I would be right there to watch and help when needed. Of course I always helped her to lick the bowl and beaters clean! That was always my favorite part.
There were many days I would come home after school and make cookies or brownies, but my attempts weren’t always successful. I remember my “Mile High Lemon Meringue Pie” was like eating lemon soup and my tapioca pudding never quite set up in the refrigerator… again, another soupy experience. There was always an occasional burnt cookie or pie crust, but overall I loved to bake.
I was in high school when I actually considered baking as a career. I would always bring homemade cheesecakes to my ballet cast parties and people loved them so much that they told me I should go to culinary school. I hadn’t thought about it before, but it made sense. I liked to bake and I watched so many cooking shows when I wasn’t in school – from Julia Child to just about anything on PBS or the Food Network – it just seemed like the natural thing to do.
I went to the University of North Texas to major in hospitality management, but I was the typical college student and changed my major at least 2 or 3 times. I finally settled on a business degree and majored in marketing. But, after a few months in the business world, I realized that I wanted more out of life. That’s when I found out about the Pastry Arts degree at El Centro College. I signed up and started taking classes in the evening whenever I could.
In 2009 I started Dessert Junky. I love making pies, cookies, and cheesecakes, along with so many other things and I’m always testing out new recipes and putting twists on some of my old favorites.
Always remember… “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first!”

“I can't tell you how many cakes I have eaten in my life, but I feel I am bit of an authority........I have never had a more decadent dessert in my life. I seldom have had food that is so good you just want to slow down so that it lasts longer....but you can't, and that is the best description I can give of how Kristin's desserts effect me, it's an emotional thing. Thats right, cheesecakes can be emotional things.......and Kristin's are. ”
